Match Report for St. Kevin’s U14 girls Shield final against Sallins – Monday 6th June 2016
A excellent display of football was shown by both teams. The match was played with 15 aside for the shield final at Suncroft on a hot sunny morning. The match began with St.Kevin’s winning the throw in and passed to the forward who hit it wide. Sallins came back strong taking the ball into the other half and narrowly missing the goal and hitting the cross bar.
A great display from St Kevin’s with brilliant passing which resulted with the center forward Ruth scoring a mighty goal! Kevin’s strong center forwards won the kick out which Tiaina then scored a goal. Sallins then went on the attack but could not break into Kevin’s defense. Cleared from the backs and passed up the field led to another goal for St. Kevin’s. A determined no 5 from Sallins went on to take the ball up the field and shoot for a goal but a great save by Caoimbe Carew, St. Kevin’s goal keeper kept it away. St. Kevin’s went on to score 2 more points before the ref called a water break (great ref).
St. Kevin’s went on to score a great point from outside the box. Sallins went on the attack again but could not break through the mighty strong backs of St. Kevin’s. St. Kevin’s went on to score 2 more goals. Sallins came back strong but with pressure from st. Kevin’s, Sallins put the ball wide! Kevin’s went on the attack again which they earned another goal! Half time whistle, Few changes were made and 2nd half began. The girls were beginning to feel the heat but with great determination by both teams they played on. Kevin’s went on the attack which led to 3 more points. The ref called a water break again (thanks ref) Sallins came back strong with no 12 scoring a great point. Kevin’s went on to score 3 more goals. A free was awarded to Sallins and it was knocked over the bar from no 8! The ref then blew the final whistle, Score 9.05 to 0.02.
It was a first and great win for St. Kevin’s who are a new club and are just starting out this season. A lot of the girls have never played before but with great determination and mentoring you would not have known. Well done to St. Kevin’s and Sallins for a super morning!
